Some single-day projects to keep my niece's head warm.
I frequently feel the need to knit something simple while I sit by a fire or watch something. Luckily for me, I share a house with my baby niece, it's winter, and she's growing fast.
First I made her the red hat. Then I extended it when her head grew. Then she grew out of it again!
I decided it was easier just to make her a new one, so I made a second one, using the same pattern but longer. Stockinette stitch is incredibly stretchy, so I didn't have to make it any wider.
Pattern: (I made this up, so pardon any wrong terminology)
Cast on 82 stitches.
Stockinette stitch: k2 p2 till end, then p2 k2 on the next row. Repeat until desired length.
k2tog, p2tog next row, then k2tog all next row.
Cut yarn with long tail, thread through remaining stitches and pull tight. Use remaining yarn to sew sides together top to bottom. Weave in end.
Make pom-pom(s) and sew on if desired. Video I learned from.
I'm not posting pictures of her, unfortunately, but I can confirm that she looks incredibly cute in her new hat.
